Ekotek, an environmental engineering and consultancy company specialised in supplying integral and innovative solutions for the environmental sector, is leading a project aimed at improving the sustainability of the transport sector. The project has a budget of €1,222,915 and is co-funded by the European Union within the framework of the LIFE+ Programme. The main objective of the project is to provide the European Transport Sector with a tool that enables firm progress towards sustainable transport from three perspectives: the environment, the economy and society.
The tool is based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology and enables the assessment of environmental, social and economic impacts throughout the entire life cycle of a number of fuels. BIOLCA will contribute to the identification and improvement of the critical issues, and therefore, to the promotion of the most sustainable fuels.
The project consortium is made up of Ekotek, the Gaiker technology centre, Tecnalia, and the Factor CO2 group, which specialises in climate change, along with the Bilbao City Council and Cespa as potential users of the tool.
